Tinnitus? What causes it?

Tinnitus is a symptom, not a disease, characterized by persistent sounds like ringing or purring. These sounds come from within the ear and have no external source, which makes them difficult to explain.

Causes of Tinnitus

Various factors cause tinnitus, including ear damage and medication use. The ear has three parts: the outer, middle, and inner ear, and damage to the middle or inner ear can result in tinnitus. Conditions that affect sound wave conduction or the brain’s interpretation of sound are common causes.

Other Triggers

Long-term exposure to loud noise, such as working with noisy machinery or using headphones, can cause tinnitus. Additionally, medications and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are other potential causes.
