Air Canada flight catches fire during rough landing at Halifax airport

An Air Canada flight made an emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport Saturday night due to a landing gear malfunction.

Flight 2259, en route from St. John’s International Airport, encountered landing troubles around 9:30 AST (0130 GMT Sunday). The malfunction caused the plane to skid on the runway, leading to an engine fire. Emergency crews quickly responded to ensure passenger safety.

Passenger Nikki Valentine described the tense moments, telling CBC News: “The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left, and… we heard a pretty loud—what almost sounded like a crash sound—as the wing of the plane started to skid along the pavement, along with what I presume was the engine.”
