Kansas City Chiefs likely future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce had three words to say when reporters asked him this week how he felt about President Donald Trump\u2019s decision to attend Super Bowl Super Bowl LIX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelce spoke as he and the Chiefs look to \u201cthree-peat\u201d \u2014 that is, win three Super Bowl championships in a row \u2014 against the NFC champ Philadelphia Eagles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an honor,\u201d he said of Trump\u2019s presence at the game on Sunday, which will take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. It will mark the first time a sitting president has attended the biggest NFL game of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s awesome. It\u2019s a great honor,\u201d Kelce said. \u201cI think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I\u2019m excited because it\u2019s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there\u2014it\u2019s the best country in the world\u2014and that\u2019s pretty cool.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NFL fans may have expected a different response from Kelce, who is famously dating pop music\u2019s biggest star, Taylor Swift, the latter of whom publicly backed Joe Biden and other Democrats in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared a similar sentiment, stating, \u201cIt\u2019s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president. Someone that is at the top position in our country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelce\u2019s response even drew praise from the left-wing co-hosts of ABC\u2019s \u201cThe View.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis Taylor Swift fan is not mad about it,\u201d Alyssa Farah Griffin began on Friday\u2019s episode. \u201cI thought it was totally classy, a diplomatic answer, and it\u2019s big day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former political strategist and member of Trump\u2019s first administration pointed out that the \u201cpresidency is bigger than any one person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know that it\u2019s any kind of statement about Donald Trump specifically,\u201d Griffin added. \u201cHe\u2019d say the same thing if it was Joe Biden, Obama, George Bush. I thought it was a very classy statement, and don\u2019t make it a bigger story. It would\u2019ve totally distracted from the game,\u201d Griffin added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Co-host Ana Navarro agreed and argued that if Kelce \u201chad said something against Trump, it would be taken out on his team and all the hate that his team would receive as they\u2019re heading into the Super Bowl.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Co-host Sara Haines added that the Chiefs are pursuing history and could become the first team to win the Super Bowl three years in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the biggest game [and] anything else he said would have made it about something else and not about them,\u201d Haines said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe was essentially saying, \u2018I love this country,\u2019\u201d Haines said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Co-host Sunny Hostin echoed the others, saying that Kelce is \u201cprotective\u201d of Swift and that he was thinking about the long-term effects of having said something negative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe was being a diplomat, and I think he did the right thing by not giving into this madness,\u201d Hostin, 56, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg ended the segment with a simple statement: \u201cThe kid did well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports said Trump is expected to attend the game alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to most popular betting odds, the Chiefs are slight favorites to beat the Eagles. The Chiefs went 15-2 during the regular season to earn the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in the AFC, while the Eagles were 14-3 and earned the No. 2 seed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
