While exploring the woods one day, Justin came across a derelict vehicle containing an ancient locked box. He made up his mind to examine its contents.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jones family, including Justin, were avid hikers. They\u2019d hop in the car and head to the best trails in the country, be they in the woods, the hills, or the mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They took a road trip to a forest that was over a hundred miles distant from their city one weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A makeshift camp was set up for them to sleep in each night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The child had ventured too far from the rest of his family while searching for edible mushrooms. He yelled, \u201cMom! Dad!\u201d<\/strong> but no one came to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He kept on moving, hoping to find his way back. He was taken aback when he came across an abandoned automobile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He decided to wait for nightfall inside the car in case a wild animal emerged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After waiting for a while, he finally caught a glimpse of his father. \u201cJustin! Where are you?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDAD! I\u2019m here! DAD!\u201d<\/strong> Again, he yelled back. When he spotted his father\u2019s feet coming up the path, he hurried over to give him a big hug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI thought I was going to have to spend the night alone!\u201d<\/strong> Justin said, relieved. \u201cLook what I found!\u201d he added after pulling away.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

His father was in awe of the classic automobile. They decided to peek inside to see whether there was anything worthwhile within.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An antique box with carved instructions reading, \u201cIf you find this box, please take it to the address below. \u2013 5\/7\/1995. Vincent Davis.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat address is just a couple of miles from here,\u201d<\/strong> Justin told his dad. \u201cShould we take it?\u201d<\/strong> he asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now it was his father\u2019s turn to lug the package. It was a big, cumbersome thing. He placed it on the ground and carefully opened it, revealing incredible contents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were several gold bars and pictures of soldiers. There was also some jewelry and a number of medals from the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis costs a lot of money! I\u2019m surprised no one has found it yet,\u201d<\/strong> Justin\u2019s dad remarked. \u201cLet\u2019s go take it to the campsite,\u201d<\/strong> he said, leading Justin back to where his mom was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justin was excited to show his mum the discoveries they made when they arrived at the spot. \u201cWell, what do you want to do with it?\u201d<\/strong> his mom asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The young man didn\u2019t have to give it much thought before answering, \u201cWe should take it to the address written, of course. Someone must be looking for it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

His parents both smiled. \u201cGood job. We\u2019re proud of you for choosing the right thing to do,\u201d<\/strong> his mom said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following day, after their camping excursion was over, they drove to the given address. A lady in her sixties answered the door when Justin\u2019s dad rang the bell. The elderly lady asked, \u201cHow may I help you?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHello ma\u2019am, what is your name?\u201d<\/strong> Justin asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy name is Linda Davis,\u201d<\/strong> she replied. After confirming her last name, Justin\u2019s dad showed her the box. She gasped, so surprised that someone had finally found it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, dear\u2026\u201d<\/strong> she said, tears filling her eyes. \u201cMy husband found out that his grandfather had left him an inheritance about 25 years ago. His grandfather buried it in the forest so that my husband\u2019s father wouldn\u2019t steal it away from him,\u201d<\/strong> she started to explain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy husband went to find it, but he never came back. We found his body near the highway, frozen. We tried searching for the car, but no one has ever found it in nearby forests. It\u2019s a miracle you found it,\u201d<\/strong> Linda said, wiping her tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe authorities said it\u2019s likely his car broke down and he went to find help. He never found help and died on the way. He likely got lost.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gold in the box is of no interest to Linda. She buried her face in the photos of her spouse, holding them close because she missed him so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The thought, \u201cJack, I miss you so much,\u201d<\/strong> crossed her mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was given a moment by Justin\u2019s relatives to examine the contents of the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her reminiscences came to an end when she added, \u201cWe never had any children, and I don\u2019t have anything to spend on. I don\u2019t need the gold, please keep it. Linda would not take no for an answer from Justin or his parents, despite their repeated protests. They then departed, carrying a chest full of riches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When they returned to the car, Justin said to his father, \u201cDad, Linda\u2019s house looked very old, it almost looked abandoned. Can we fix it?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was very appreciative that they were very front with their intentions. She had always hoped that one day she could afford to fix up her home, but she had never considered it a priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A priceless friendship among Linda, Justin, and his parents began on that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When her friends and family came to visit, Linda would eagerly prepare the delicious meals she had long forgotten how to make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They would occasionally have Linda over so she wouldn\u2019t have to spend the holidays alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what\u2019s the moral of the story?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

No matter how tempting it may be, we should always make the right choice. When Justin\u2019s parents asked him what he planned to do with the box, it was a test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He didn\u2019t think twice about coming clean about his desire to give the box back to its original owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whenever possible, we should help those who help us. After Justin and his family returned her late husband\u2019s box to her, Linda insisted they keep the gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of keeping the gold for themselves, Justin\u2019s family decided to put the money toward fixing up Linda\u2019s home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
